Summer Themed Movie Nights : UP

There's something about turning the lights low, gathering everyone onto the couch, and hitting play that makes the whole evening feel like its own little world. Our family movie nights have quietly become one of the rhythms of our home, the kind of tradition I hope my kids look back on one day and feel wrapped up in all over again. The anticipation, the blankets, the way everyone finds their spot!
This week, we were off to Paradise Falls with Carl and Russell, and I went full send on the themed menu. Over the top? Maybe a little. Worth it? Every single time.

🌭Doug's hot dogs
Served on homemade buns, because Dug deserves nothing less than the good stuff. Simple, beloved, and exactly the kind of food that makes a little boy (or a very good dog) feel celebrated. The kids loved knowing exactly who these were for.
🍟 Russell's Chips
Homemade French fries for our favorite earnest little Wilderness Explorer. Crispy, golden, and gone in about four minutes flat. No complaints from anyone at this table.
🍉 Paradise Falls Fruit Salad
Fresh, colorful, and just a little bit adventurous, like the destination itself. This was the bright spot on the table and the perfect something-lighter alongside all the good, hearty food.
🍇 Ellie's Grape Soda
This one got the biggest reaction. The moment the kids saw grape soda on the menu they immediately knew why, and it made the whole movie feel more meaningful before it even started.
🎈 Balloon Cake Pops
The showstopper. Festive, sweet, and so perfectly on theme. These little cake pops captured all the whimsy of ten thousand balloons lifting a house off the ground. They disappeared fast.

I'll be honest, the food is really only half of it. The other half is just the togetherness. The way my kids burrow into their blankets and settle in for something slow and good. These weekly movie nights have become the highlight of our week, and I don't say that lightly. In a world that rarely slows down, these quiet evenings built around a great story and a table full of food feel like some of the most important hours we spend.
If you haven't tried building your movie night menu around the movie itself, I can't recommend it enough. It takes something you were already going to do and turns it into something your kids will bring up for years.
