Summer Themed Movie Nights : Moana

There's something about dimming the lights, piling everyone onto the couch, and pressing play on a movie that just makes the whole world feel smaller and sweeter. Our weekly family movie nights have become one of those traditions I hope my kids carry with them forever. The anticipation, the blankets, the way everyone settles in!
This week, we sailed away to Motunui with Moana, and I went all in on the themed menu. Was it extra? Absolutely. Was it worth every second? Without a doubt.

🍢 Hei Hei Chicken Kabobs
Named after everyone's favorite clueless rooster, these kabobs were the star of the savory spread. Marinated chicken threaded onto skewers with colorful veggies — simple, crowd-pleasing, and perfectly on theme. The kids thought it was hilarious that we were eating the BOAT snack!
🧀 Maui's Fishhook Mac and Cheese
You can't have a Moana night without something to honor the mighty Maui, and this creamy, golden mac and cheese delivered. Rich, cheesy, comforting, basically the food equivalent of Maui's confidence. The little ones went back for seconds (and thirds).
🌋 Te-Ka Lava Cake
This one was the showstopper. A warm, molten chocolate lava cake inspired by the fiery Te-Ka and when you break into it and the center flows out, the kids lose it every time.
🍉 Motunui Fruit Salad
Fresh, bright, and tropical, just like the island itself. This fruit salad was a beautiful burst of color on the table and the perfect lighter balance to all the richness.
🐷 Pua Pink Piggie Poppi
A fun special drink- pink raspberry rose poppi was the perfect addition to our dinner!
I'll be honest, the food is half the fun, but the other half is just being together. The way my kids curl up with their favorite blankets. Weekly movie nights have become the highlight of our week, and I don't take that lightly. In a world that moves so fast, these slow evenings around a good story and good food feel like the most important thing we do!
If you haven't tried theming your movie night menu around what you're watching, I cannot recommend it enough. It turns something ordinary into something your kids will talk about for years!
