There is something about a homemade bun that just hits different. Maybe it's the way your kitchen smells when they're in the oven, or the way they feel in your hands. They are oh so soft and a little pillowy and nothing like the ones that come in a bag. Whatever it is, once you experience it, you start to wonder why you ever settled for anything less.
Bread in general can feel intimidating and I think we've all been trained to believe that certain things are just better left to the bakery. But I'm here to tell you that homemade hamburger and hot dog buns are genuinely one of the most simple things you can make, even if you're still getting your footing with yeast doughs. They're soft, they're sturdy enough to hold up to a loaded burger, and they freeze beautifully which means you can make a big batch on a Sunday afternoon and have homemade buns ready to go for weeks.
Grab your apron. Let's make some buns!
