5 Daily Homemaking Disciplines

Being a homemaker is a labor of love, and at the heart of it all, discipline plays a vital role in creating a harmonious and joyful home. It's not about rigid routines or strict rules, but rather about finding a balance that nurtures both our living space, family, and well-being. As homemakers, we wear many hats, and a touch of discipline can help us navigate the daily juggle with grace and intentionality. So, let's explore how embracing a bit of structure can bring out the best in our homes and in ourselves with these 5 daily disciplines.

1. Make your bed

Making your bed every morning might seem like a small task, but it sets a positive tone for the day ahead. A neatly made bed can instantly make your bedroom look and feel more inviting, creating a peaceful place to retreat to at the end of the day.

2. Start your day by figuring out your top 3

Creating a top 3 to-do list each day is a practice that can truly transform your approach to productivity. By focusing on those essential tasks, you not only set yourself up for success but also prevent that overwhelming feeling of unmet expectations at the end of the day. It's about celebrating what you accomplished rather than dwelling on what didn't get done. Every morning make your top 3 list, then tackle those priorities. Every evening be proud you did your top 3, and give yourself grace for anything else.

3. Get your face in the Bible

Reading your Bible every day is something every homemaker needs to be doing. We can't do this alone and the only way we can get through the day sometimes is going to be leaning on Christ. Even if it is only for 5 minutes at the end of the day, do what you can in this season. Start in the morning by giving your day to the Lord. A prayer I like to pray every morning is Psalm 19:14- "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."

4. Do one load of laundry

Doing one load of laundry every day might not sound fun, but it's a game-changer when it comes to maintaining a smoothly running household. By taking this small but consistent step, you ensure that the never-ending laundry mountain never grows too large. We have implemented a communal hamper and I wash everyone's clothes once a day. It saves you from the stress of facing an overwhelming pile of dirty clothes and frees up your weekends for a true sabbath and family time.

5. Put your house to bed

Clean the kitchen, run the dishwasher, pick up the clutter and toys. Picture this: You wake up to a fresh start each morning, not greeted by yesterday's mess. It's like hitting the reset button for your home and your mind. You'll find that a tidy space promotes a sense of calm, making your evenings more relaxed, and your mornings brighter. Plus, it's a simple way to instill good habits and teach the importance of responsibility to kids. So, don't underestimate the power of this nightly ritual – it brings peace, order, and a sense of accomplishment to your home.

In the wonderful world of homemaking, there's always something to be done, but it's the way we approach it that makes all the difference. With motivation, a touch of discipline, and a heart full of joy, we can turn every chore into a labor of love. Let's embrace each day as an opportunity to create a warm, welcoming haven for our loved ones. So, keep your spirits high, remember the bigger picture, and find delight in the small moments of each task. As homemakers, we have the incredible power to shape our homes and hearts with love and purpose, and the journey is just as beautiful as the destination. Keep up the great work, and may your days be filled with happiness, contentment, and joy has you faithfully work unto the Lord.
